I think remakes, whether movies or songs, are fine so long as the remake offers some new take on the material, or the original didn't live up to its potential. However, I'm a little put off by remakes that are simply modernized versions of old movies, which were just fine as they were. For example, I'm really put off by the remake of "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" which is coming out this summer. The original is a classic, in my opinion, and works fine as it is. You know the new movie will simply be slicker and more fast paced with nausea-inducing camera work. To me, it's just a way for people to cash in on a classic because young movie-goers are not familiar with the original and will go see the remake as if it were a new story.
